Definizione

Selig Brodetsky (1888-1954) was a math professor at Leeds University and Zionist leader in the United Kingdom before and during the war. Originally from the Ukraine, Brodetsky's family moved to England where he was educated at Cambridge University. Brodetsky also became involved in Zionism while a student. He joined the Zionist Organization of the Jewish Agency in 1928 and became head of the political department in London. In this capacity he protested the White Paper that had restricted Jewish immigration to the British mandate of Palestine after 1930. From 1939 to 1949, he served as the president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. Brodetsky then served as president of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 1949 to 1951 and as president of the World Organization of Maccabi. (en-US)
