Definizione

The Guardia Nazionale Repubblicana was formed as a political army in November 1943 with the establishment of the Italian Social Republic. Led by Renato Ricci, the GNR took the place of the prewar Milizia Volontaria (MVSN) and incorporated the Police of Italian Africa (PAI), squads of the Bande Nere, and the regular police, the carabinieri. It also operated as a police force with investigative powers and participated in the arrests of Jews in 1944. (en-US)
