Definizione

The presidential inauguration of Richard Nixon on January 20, 1969 marks a shift to a Republican administration. The gradual withdrawal of troops from Vietnam begins in 1969. On January 27, 1973, the U.S. agrees to the full withdrawal of U.S. forces from Vietnam; by the end of the year, few U.S. military personnel remain. In August 1973, Attorney General Elliot Richardson greatly facilitates the visa procedures for emigrants with relatives in the U.S. Soviet Jewish emigrants begin using these procedures to change their destination from Israel to the U.S. During the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, the U.S. remains an isolated ally of Israel. Nixon resigns on August 9, 1974, and Vice President Gerald Ford is sworn in to office on the same day. By 1976, half of all Soviet Jewish emigrants with Israeli visas come to the U.S. (en-US)
