In human pathology, a skin inflammation accompanied by severe nighttime itching caused by the cutaneous parasite Sarcoptes scabiei; aka, the 'itch mite.' Transmission of the mite is by skin-to-skin contact and by contamination of clothing or bedding. (en-US)
