The expropriation of business and property for the means of creating a Socialist or "Marxist-Leninist" society with the eventual goal of true communism. Citizens were allowed to possess only personal belongings; land and structures belonged to the state. Many survivors who did not emigrate lost their homes and/or had their businesses confiscated by the state. Moreover, many were not able to recover their lost property when they returned home from the war. (en-US)
