Definizione

On December 21, 1948, the Socialist party and the Communist party merge to form the Polish United Workers' party. Mass repressions take place during this period. All Jewish schools are nationalized in the 1948-1949 school year, resulting in the further reduction of Jewish studies. The vast majority of the Orthodox Jews and Zionists leave Poland before 1950. The head of the Polish Roman Catholic church, Cardinal Wyszynski, is arrested for alleged conspiracy against the state. (en-US)
