Definizione

Definition: Hitler becomes German chancellor on January 30, 1933. With the rise of the Third Reich, German Jews pursue emigration possibilities. Until 1936, Australia permits entry only to aliens with 500 pounds in landing money or dependent relatives in Australia; a gradual relaxation of immigration policy begins in 1936. Australia announces on December 1, 1938 that 15,000 refugees may enter over the next three years, but the outbreak of the war ends the flow of refugees. (en-US)
