Definizione
Hasidic Judaism emerged as a popular religious movement during the second half of the 18th century, beginning in the Polish Ukraine (Podolia). The seminal figure of the movement, Israel Baal Shem Tov, was learned in the Kabbalah, but shifted the esoteric focus of Kabbalism from metaphysical speculation to mystical experience. Hasidism split into a number of groups, each owing allegiance to a local charismatic leader. A dynastic style of leadership often developed, and the character of the Hasidic way of life and communal cohesion varies in the different Hasidic dynasties. (en-US)
