Fossoli (Italia : campo di concentramento)   Cerca

Definizione

In late 1943 the Italian government established a police detention and transit camp in Fossoli, Italy. The majority of the inmates in the Fossoli camp were political prisoners and Italian Jews. Control of the camp was taken over by the SS on February 8, 1944, and SS Sergeant Major Hans Haage became the head of Fossoli. Following the Nazi takeover of the camp, Fossoli became a center for Jewish inmates in Central Italy and mass deportations to the Auschwitz, Bergen Belsen, and Bolzano-Gries concentration camps. Approximately 2,600 Jews were deported from Fossoli throughout its operation. The Fossoli camp was closed in mid-1944 and camp operations were transferred to the Bolzano-Gries concentration camp.
