Nota d'ambito

Definizione

Displaced persons (DP) camps were established soon after World War II in Germany, Austria, and Italy with the aid of the Allied armed forces (except for the Soviets) to accommodate displaced persons. The DP camps were administered by the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA), the Allied Commission (A.C.), and the International Refugee Organization (IRO). These camps, also known as "assembly centers", were established in a variety of places; e.g., former army barracks, POW camps, concentration camps, civilian workers camps, as well as in hotels, apartment buildings, hospitals, cloisters, etc. (en-US)
